Machiel Pul (1971-2004)
On the afternoon of Thursday 3 June, a young man reports to the office of Mr. Pul, a lawyer in Doetinchem. He asks the receptionist if he can speak to the lawyer about the case in which his father and mother are involved. The boy lives with his father and Mr. Pul represents his mother. The receptionist explains that Mr. Pul can only provide limited information because the contents of the file are covered by the lawyer's professional secrecy. The boy shows understanding, but still wants to speak to the lawyer. He makes a calm impression. Machiel Pul makes time to speak to the young man. Service is self-evident to him. It is conceivable that a son whose parents are involved in a procedure needs information. The young man walks with him to his room. After a short while, the office is startled by a lot of noise. The office staff rush over. They see that their colleague has been stabbed. Emergency services are alerted. In the meantime, the perpetrator flees. The ambulance arrives very quickly, but help is in vain. Machiel Pul appears to have been fatally injured and dies almost immediately. Machiel Pul worked in Doetinchem at the Grootjans office together with three other lawyers. An office like many others in the Netherlands. The practice focuses on entrepreneurs and private individuals in the immediate vicinity. Personal contacts with clients contribute to the existence of the office. Machiel Pul felt at home at this office and in this area. He worked in a general practice. Craftsmanlike, with dedication and commitment. Focused on preventing conflicts and finding solutions. Machiel Pul was looking forward to the future. As of 1 January 2005, he would join the partnership. The office would then be even more unique. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. The Order wishes them, his other family members and his office colleagues much strength in coping with this enormous loss. Frans van Oss Dean of the Zutphen district Jeroen Brouwer General Dean
